I have a Sony 19 in flat screen monitor about a year old that flickers
between 8-15 times when booting or coming over from sleep. I have made sure
the cord is secure. I haven't changed any hardware configurations. This
start about a week ago and has progressively gotten worse. Could this be a
monitor issue or simply a short in the cord? Help appreciated
Thanks

Tried updating the drivers?

I wouldn't eliminate your Video card as part of the problem.
How does the monitor connect to the card (VGA or DVI) ?
From your description it sounds like a Video card initialization
issue. Which Video card do you use and if it has 128+ Meg
of memory have you checked it's fan lately to make sure it's
operating ?
I have a Sony LCD that works very well. As a side issue I
would probably make sure the monitor definition file is for the
Sony and not using the "Plug-&-Play" default. Also, Sony has
a adjustment tool that helps setup the monitor to your video
card.
Not knowing your model #, I would check at Sony's menu
page for the Drivers/Utility.
