Modify source drive for XP install & SP1 install !

Hi,

two questions :

1 - how can I change the source drive for WinXP Install ? When I installed,
my CD-R drive was named J:
Now since partitioning and renaming it to R: I would like to adapt the
source drive for WinXP install since when I do a sfc I keep getting messages
about trying to locate the CD !

2 - almost same for the SP1a : I have it on HD since not that big and
faster. How can I have Windows point to that folder ( to the executable
version of SP1a that I donwloaded)

Thanks !

Hi Pivert,

1) Open the registry editor (Start>Run key in regedit and hit ENTER), and
navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows NT \CurrentVersion
Look in right-hand pane for Sourcepath and modify the value data to point to
the new drive letter
Do the same as above using this navigation:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

2) if SP1a has already been installed, when you run SFC it will look for the
updated files in the c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder that is created
when you install the Service Pack. If you look at the ServicePackCachePath
entry in the right-hand pane when you've navigated to the second navigation
that I mentioned in 1), you should see c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386
under the Data column.

With regedit.exe - open to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
and in the right pane d-click SourcePath and change the CD drive
letter.

For SP1 files - they should be in a folder on Hard disk;
windows\ServicepackFIles
You can move contents of that where you like - even burn to another CD -
and change the next item in the registry ServicePackSourcePath to the
place containing the \i386 folder. You don't need your original SP1a
download, other than to burn it to a CD for archiving against a
reinstall
