Please please can somone tell me why my PC starts up when
my house phone rings, as this did not happen with my old
PC which was running win 98 it must be my XP or my modem
please can you help me

You need to go into your BIOS and disable the feature that says "Wake on
Ring", "Wake on LAN", or something similar. You will usually find it under
the Power Management section.
