My telephone line is pluged in the back of my HP521n
correctly. When someone calls our home the modem sound
kicks on and you can't hear the conversation on the
telephone. This occurs only when the telephone jack is
plugged into the computer. We are tired of plugging and
unplugging the line to use the telephone. Why does this
(modem/fax) keep turning on when our phone rings?

It's answering the call because you've set it to auto-answer and it does't
know whether it's a phone call or a fax call that's incoming. It cannot
tell the difference.
