Modem volume?

For some reason I can no longer hear the modem in my HP laptop PC.

Even if adjust the PC volume controls all the way up, I can't hear the dial
tones and screeching when I make a connection.

Can someone tell me how to adjust the modem volume?

There are more than one set of volume controls-- The audio mixer and the
external on case buttons are two. If that isn't enough, modem options may
enable or disable audio monitoring and when it takes place. Then there are
the "advanced" modem command strings.

It might be of some help to know what model laptop is involved.
Why do you want to inflict such a raucous noise on your poor ears? Are you
having some sort of connection problem?
