Modem problem

Sunday night while I was downloading Windows Update to my desktop we had a
power outage. When we tried to use the modem next (2 days later) the modem
tells me it isn't getting a dial tone. The phone connected to a phone line
running through the modem has a working dial tone. All the testing
resources from Windows say the modem is running fine. (It shows a printout
of the modem and Windows talking to each other.) I am at a complete loss.
Is there anything else I can do short of purchasing a new modem?

Hello

Well you can always remove the modem from the system and
reboot, and let XP dectect the modem again. Give these options
a try if all fails reoplace the modem, or if you do not want to go
through this process just go out purcahse a new modem and be
done with it.

1. Another option you can remove the modem
2. Place it in another PCI Slot or ISA Slot
3. Get the most updated driver for that particular modem
4. Last option replace it

You could try system restore to a point before the problem began.
Start button \ programs \ accessories \ system tools

Do you know whether the windows update download had completed?

Also, look in device manager to see if any problem is indicated by a
yellow symbol. control panel \ system \ hardware \ device mgr
