modem not detected

I am having a problem with the internet wizard not
recognizing my modem. I cannot set up a connection
manually. The wizard only leaves me the choice of a
broadband connection,while the other two choices are
dimmed. Also, my isp's software(verizon) doesn't find a
modem at all. But,I can dial out with hyperterminal.
Querying the modem shows no problems,and I re-installed my
modem. I even tried a new one just to be safe. All to no
avail. I really need help with this.

I dont know what is going on with your modem but try this
go My computer/control panal/phone & modem options/modem
if your modem is listed here click on it
then/properties/at the bottom of page you will see Device
usage and it should read "use this device (enable)if not
change it
