modem location

We recently installed Windows XP Professional. Since the
installation we have had trouble using the modem. The
operating system recognizes the modem just fine until we
shut down the computer and boot it back up. At that
point, the operating system loses memory of our modem
location. (In the Phone and Modem Options dialog box,
the modem appears but is not "attached.") In order to be
able to dial we have to "Remove" the modem using the
Phone and Modem Options dialog box and then "Add" it
again. At that point the operating system recognizes
that the modem is attache to COM3, and we can dial
again. We have to go through the procedure each time we
boot up the computer. Can someone help us figure out how
to prevent the operating system from losing memory of our
modem location each time we shut down/boot up our
computer? Thank you!
