Greetings all,

I have a WinXP Home system keeps dialling thru the modem, but I can't seem
to fix it.

I HAVE checked the startup list - nothing unusual.

I HAVE checked the task list when it happens - no obvious clue
(its actually \Windows\Explorer.exe thats doing the access.)

I HAVE set the modem connection to Never Dial.

I HAVE removed Messenger (AND set it to Not Run)

I HAVE done virus checks, trojans checks, spyware checks - heck, I've run
EVERY SINGLE cleaning tool I have ever heard of...

I HAVE updated windows, and IE.

I HAVE checked the internet for solutions (e.g. Never Dial, remove
Messenger)

But it STILL dials every minutes or so...

Any suggestions?

All responses appreciated :)

Download Ad-Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy and test your system.
You may have a "dialer" spyware program on your system. Can you tell
what area code and phone number it's trying to call? This type of
scumware installs itself via an ActiveX control, then attempts to call a
long-distance number, racking up huge charges to your phone bill.

I'd second that. Plus HijackThis
<http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155>:
1) Install and run Spybot. First update it ("Search for updates"), then run a
scan ("Check for problems"). Trust Spybot, and make all recommended deletions.
2) Install and run HijackThis. Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save the
HJT Log. <http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=227>
3) Have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the following
forums (and post it, or a link to your forum post, here):

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
