help! I am unable to connect to the internet using the internal 56k modem on
my dial up account. I looked in device manager - the modem is NOT listed. I
am using Windows XP home. When I look in "Network and Internet
connections">set up or change internet connection>connections and look at
settings>properties>general it says "modem removed" and shows a little red
cross.
When I switch to classic view and look in "phone and modem options">modems
it lists my modem (under "modems" ) but under "attached to" it says "not
present". The "add" and "remove" buttons are available but the "properties"
button is greyed out. Anyone got any ideas what's wrong with it? The modem is
a PCI modem and is installed correctly inside the tower.

Correctly installed inside the tower has little effect on whether Windows
thinks that it is correctly installed.. go to..

http://www.lavalys.com

Download and run Everest Home edition.. it is free.. use it to ascertain
make and model of your modem, and link to the modem manufacturer website
which you should find listed at the base of the page where you find modem
details..

Download the relevant drivers, and follow instructions to load the drivers..
