Modem connection problems

I am using a sitecom DC009 usb modem (which has the conexant HCF chipset),
in conjunction with a industrial PC running windows XP embedded.
I am having lots of problems with intermittent connections to this device. I
dial up the device using dialup networking, sometimes the modem fails to
answer at all, sometimes dialup networking reports and error when
negotiating connection, sometimes it connects fine but the line drops off
after a few minutes.
If I try another modem the fault sometimes goes away - but I'm pretty sure
the modem isn't actually faulty.
Windows XP reports the driver version as 952.172.52.0 - do I need an update
??
Also the machine has a 400mhz VIA cpu with 128mb RAM, is this to slow, could
this be the problem ??

Thanks,

Keith

Keith,

I have exactly the same problem, which is the modem driver is probably
badly written, causing it to be too much of a processor overhead. Our
400Mhz embedded system, simply grinds to a halt on dialup, causing all
apps to enter a fault watchdog mode, not that desirable for the end
client.
