Modem connection errors. Error 6 and 50.

Hi,
I'm running WinXP Pro (SP1)and have trouble connecting to
the Net. I have tried both an external and internal modem
but with the same results.
Two different error messages are displayed (but not at the
same time), just after a connection is established with my
ISP and then the modem drops the connection and starts to
redial.

Error no.1: Verifying username and password...
Error 6: The handle is invalid

OR

Error no.2: All devices connected
Error 50: The request is not supported

I am able to dial out and maintain a stable connection via
Hyperterminal (tested this by dialing my mobile phone).

I've tried the following so far:

1. Reapplied SP1
2. Reinstalled WinXP via the installation CD using
the "Repair" option
3. Deleted and reinstated the ISP dial-up account
4. Completed the "Modem Troubleshooter" from within Help
and Support, but no luck
5. Deleted ZoneAlarm

Any ideas would be much appreciated. Please send any
replies to (e-mail address removed) as well as to this forum.

Thanks heaps!!!
