Modem conflict

Having recently upgraded to XP my internet connection now
fails to work.
XP reports that the port COM3 is already in use and can't
open bu tthis doesn't seem to be the case.
Anyone know of a workaround please ?

Get drivers for your modem that will work with XP from the modem mftr.'s
site. Uninstall the modem and reinstall, using the proper drivers. If
this doesn't work, then consider getting a different modem - an
internal pci modem is under $20usd.
