Control Panel - System Properties - Hardware - Device Manager - right click
on your modem and choose properties - Advanced - enter the string you want
to use in the Extra initialization commands. OK your way back to the
desktop.

Tried that Ron and it still wont save

Have you gone to the Modem makers site and downloaded the latest drivers for
your modem? It is possible that you are using the MS Default modem driver
and although it works in most cases, yours may be the exception? Is this an
internal, external or on-board modem? What brand name is the modem?
Do you have the drivers provided with your modem (Install disk)? Have you
tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling using the install disk that came
with it?
