Mobile Graphics confusion

Hi, hope someone can help me here, i've been looking at laptops and seen these graphics cards;

Nvidia GeForce 8400M G - 128MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT - 128MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS - 256MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 8400S - 256MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS - 256MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 9000 - 256MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS - 256MB Dedicated
Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS - 256MB Dedicated

ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 - 128MB Dedicated
ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 - 256MB Dedicated
ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 - 256MB Dedicated
ATI Mobility Radeon HD3430 - 256MB Dedicated
ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 - 512MB Dedicated

Im assuming that the HD3650 would be the best out of the lot, but was wondering how the others would stack up.
I don't know much about graphics and reading up on each one has just confused me totally. What are the top few cards in the list?

What make & spec of laptop are you looking at?
Will you be gaming on this laptop?

They're listed from top to bottom from low to high quality in the lists you posted.

I don't know which laptop graphics are best but probably doesn't make a great deal of difference whether you choose ATI or Nvidia.

Some laptops will share graphic chores with the system memory, avoid that setup if possible.

The ones i've look at are various makes hp/acer/toshiba mainly, all with processors around 2.0GHz with 2MB's L2 cache and FSB speeds atleast 667MHz.

I'll be doing basic gaming (the classic AOE series etc.) but may delve into some more serious gaming but nothing too high end. I will use the laptop for watching movies and the like, mainly looking for one with a hdmi output to give me a reason to buy a new tv lol

Not being an ATI fanboy I'm really not up on their models

I assumed they would be listed in order as the Nvidia ones were.
