mmc.exe error

Every time I try to access the hardware device manager I
get "mmc.exe has generated erros and will be closed by
windows. You will need to restart the program."
I'm not sure of the cause.
There is a fatal error in the audio driver that is
directly integrated with the mother board.
I uninstalled the driver, and started getting this mmc.exe
error.

Did you get a chance to disable the onboard sound in the bios,
remove the driver in Safe Mode, and then try from there? Maybe an
older or other driver from the hardware website? Or some other
web_location, or CD?
