missing windows "program.exe" file

I seem to missing the file " program.exe" from my windows XP laptop. the
machine came with XP preinstalled and no recovery discs. How can I obtain
this file and reinstall it? I have a desktop PC runing XP professional, can
I copy the file from this machine? If so please instruct. Thanks

Try and use System File Checker (Sfc). Type the following in the Run dialog
box or Command Prompt:

sfc /scannow

Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker
(Sfc.exe)

System File Checker should replace the file for you, if not then there also
may be copies of this file located in these two directory (folders).

c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 (This folder may not be present)
c:\windows\system32\dllcache (This folder may be hidden)

If you cannot see the dllcache folder then type the following in the Run
dialog box or Command Prompt:

dllcache

This should open the dllcache folder.

If the "program.exe" file is found in one of the two mentions then copy the
file to:

c:\windows\system32

Do you have a folder called "i386" located in the C drive (c:\i386)?
