Windows File Missing or Corrupt

I have a Toshiba Laptop, Satalite A55 Series. And like many others I see it
says the following file is missing or corrupt:
Windows\System32\Config\System. I tried to use the recovery disk that came
with the computer and when I do it says that it is for the wrong machine and
it is for Windows 98, not XP. What should I do about that? Anyone that can
help me on what I should do will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank You

Contact the place where you got the computer from and get the correct recovery disk for
your computer.

System Recovery so I know it is the right disk, so thats why I dont
understand why its not working.

How to Recover from a Corrupted Registry That Prevents Windows XP from Starting
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an
OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and
user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in
this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the
original registry hives.

So this article is not of much use to you as you have an OEM version and you also have
only a recovery disk.

You stated "I tried to use the recovery disk that came

Now you state " that I used the disk before to do the
| System Recovery so I know it is the right disk"

Either you have the right recovery disk or you don't.

If the recovery disk isn't working or it is the wrong disk, you can contact the
manufacturer and get a new one. On the other hand, you may have a hidden partition that
you can use to recover from.
