Hello all

hoping someone can help me ?

I have a Toshiba laptop running XP last night on start up the screen
stayed black and after 10 mins I got the message

-Window unable to start file is missing or corrupt

Windows\system32\config\system-

Xp was preinstalled on the PC and I only have a recovery disc which
warns it will wipe the hard drive !!

I would love to be able to sort it without losing data

Any ideas

You need to get to the recovery console to run chkdsk /r. But without a an
XP disc, theres not much you can do. However if the file system is formatted
with FAT32, you can boot with a Win98 boot disc and run scandisk. If the
file is actually missing and the file system is FAT32, just copy the
"System" file from the Windows\Repair folder to the Windows\System32\Config
folder and reboot. If the file system is NTFS, use NTFSDOS.
