Missing System32.exe Message On Startup

B

brian

When I start my computer I get the following error
message:

Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and thne try
again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and
then click Search.

I had just removed a virus that might have affected that
file, so I might have deleted it when I removed it from
quarantine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Brian

Do a search, using the first link in my signature, and you'll find all the

I am having a similar problem:
I get two messages. One is "Windows cannot find
C:\WINNT\System 32\vxdmgr 32.exe
the other is:
Cannot find: C:\WINNT\dllreg.exe
I do not understand what you mean by the first link in
your signature! Please help!
I have some very valuable data and photos on my computer.
Is there a way to restore the original system files
without losing all my valuable work?
Thanks in advance,
Joanne

Brian,

This file is not a Microsoft core file and is most likely a virus. I would
recommend either an Internet virus scanning program or to visit either
McAfee's or Symantec's websites to review the virus implications.

Actually, Mike, it looks like his AV software got it (KWBot). The error is
caused by the Registry entry that the AV software doesn't remove.
