Hi,

Some months ago the problem of missing system tray icons
on boot-up disappeared. My guess (and it is only a guess)
is that MS hid the fix for this in one of its regular
Critical Updates. Well, having recently installed a few
further updates via the Windows Update method the problem
has returned.

Has anyone else experienced similar?

Regards

I have exactly the same problem which started after a security Update was
installed.

Noticed that the matter has been discussed in the past but unfortunately the
messages are no longer on the server.

I can use PC Magazine's Tray Magician which works like a charm. It's just
that I have to install it and run it on startup so it's no good if it's not
installed when it's needed, otherwise it's fine.

PS: Tray Factory is probably good as well, but it's shareware.

The is from MVP Kelly Theriot's http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm:

"Icons are missing or disappear, reappear: This generally happens for most
Auto-Logon users.
Methods/workarounds: Log off and Log back on, password protect your account
or disable SSDP and uPNP Services.

Disable SSDP and uPNP Services (Line 156)

Or if you are running XP SP1 uninstall UPnP from Add/Remove Windows
Components."
