System Tray Icons Disappeared

The system tray icons have disappeared, all of them except the clock.

I have re-started, tried the PNP services trick, but they stubornly refuse
to return.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Windows XP, SP2

Have you tries right-clicking at the time/date> Customise Notifications>
Restore defaults.
