System Tray Icons - Still Missing

Are Microsoft Listening? Why, after around 2 years, have
Microsoft not sorted this error? On boot-up icons are
still regularly missing from the system tray despite the
fact that the associated process is running. It's not as
though this error is limited to third-party applications
either as one of the most common missing icons for me is
the speaker. I know this is a common problem as it's been
discussed here before as well as other Windows help sites.

I realise that this is not exactly a critical error but
it's bloody anoying as it means booting-up the computer,
then logging-off and logging back on; hardly a neat
solution.

Only time I know of icons missing from the system tray is when explorer.exe
falls over.
Are you getting these errors?
I'll assume that the icons aren't inactive and hidden.

This consistently happens with mine as well, when I reboot they reappear and
I do know of others XP systems doing the same thing, but nothing else is
amiss

To amplify a little. This is a very commonly reported
problem and appears to be linked to those of us who use
the auto log-on facility i.e. are not presented with the
welcome screen offering the option to log-on as one of
several users.

To those saying that they don't have this problem; shock
horror! I'd be amazed if any fault manifested itself to
every single user; it depends on the way you set up
Windows and many other factors. My point is that this
problem has been evident from th every early days of
Windows XP and still it remains unfixed.

I 'auto log on' and do not and have never had the problem that you seem to
have..

well i have that problem, and so do many other people i know. if you know of
a solition- great! if not, i see no point in saying that someone doesn't have
that problem. Dah!
if someone has the solution, please reply

I have the same problem. It seems to be erratic since sometimes the icons
appear (and therefore the programs load) and sometimes they don't.
