Missing removable drive

Hi,

I was hoping someone out there could help. I have an e machines 160 pc
with 40gb hard drive 384 mb memory and windows xp hme edition
installed.

Basically, I am trying to get an mp3 player to work on my pc. When i
plug it in the pc recognises the device and installs it but when I go
into MY computer there is no E drive where i would normally find it. I
have tried it on another pc and it works fine. I have tried other
peripherals like printer etc in the usb port and they work ok. I have
tried installing and reinstalling and nothing. The player didn't come
with any drivers. It also causes my pc to hang when it is plugged in
and when i tae it out it says 'there was a problem during installation
this hardware may not work properly.'
I used to have just acd drive in my pc with an Iomega external cd/rw
which worked fine through my e drive. I now have an internal dvd/rw
which i installed about 6 months ago and that seems to work fine.

I am just wondering if there is some kind of conflict caused by this.
Is it possibly recognising that has a removable device and not letting
my mp3 player work?

Is there anything in the BIOS i should have changed or could have beed
changed by this install?
Could it be related to the motherboard?

Sorry for all the questions but I am not a expert on computers and
thias problem is bugging me.

Any help/advioce ould be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Peter :)

in computer management via
admin tools, you should be able
to explore the drive.

also, can you see and use that
drive under safemode?

it doesn't show up when i go into computer management.
That's the problem its as if the e drive doesn't exist and when a
device which would normally use that drive is plugged in the computer
reognises the device no problem but then it just stops when it gets to
the bit where i assume it would install onto the drive.

not sure about safe mode.
