Missing Registry Key?

G

Guest

Hello!
Recently, I performed a system recovery for Windows XP. Now, when attempting
to install Service Pack 2, I receive an error: "Access Denied". I followed
the steps in the Microsoft KB Article and found that the registry key in
question is: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_DISABLE_MK_PROTOCOL

This key doesn't seem to exist in the registry. SP2 was fine before the
system recovery. Does this mean that something happened to delete this key?
If so, how do I replace it? Am I completely off base here?

Any help or suggestion is appreciated

Is this the one you looked at:
You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to install
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1

Ramesh and PaulM,
Thank you both very much for your help. I tried these things many times
before posting here. The problem, however, has been resolved. The registry
key was missing.

If anyone else has this problem, I found the solution here:
