Missing Reg key for "show hidden files folders"

D

Dan

I think a virus has infected my system because my AVP found a hackittoolkit
or somethintg inside a zip file.

Anyway ever since this has been found and removed (supposedly) the check box
in folder options for "show hidden Files & Folders" is missing.

How do I add this option back in - what have i got to do to the registry to
replace this key ?

help would be much appreciated......

Hi Dan

Copy and paste everything between the dotted lines below into Notepad
(make sure word wrap is turned off first) then save it as a .reg file,
for example hidden.reg. Double-click on the saved file and answer Yes to
the prompt to merge this into your registry, then reboot and see if your
"Show hidden" checkbox is back. It might be a good idea to make a
restore point first just in case you want to undo it.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes :)

The original prolem is cured but now my CD/DVD drive has disappeared from my

it is definately connected and works fine in another machine so once again

Hi Dan

It may be virus or whatever other nasty it was has not been completely
removed; or perhaps in trying to clean it, your AV has removed something
it shouldn't. Time to get some expert help, I'd say :)

Here's advice quoted from a post by PA Bear, one of our MVPs:

Warning,

Don't run VBS files unless the content is verified as safe which you cannot
do from this static site.

Also, these files & the registry files hosted are from just a random
computer & also contains unwanted keys from software that may not be
installed on your machine. The user (Kelly) has just exported her registry
settings and hasn't cleaned up the registry files

Just be careful,

All files from Kelly's Korner are normal default Windows settings
present in all stated Windows machines.

Perfectly safe.
