Missing (or messed up) Windows Icons

I seem to have aproblem on my computer where alot of the icons disappeared
and changed to the white box/blue top stripe with shortcut arrow in the lower
left corner.

I've tried to delete the "iconcache" file and that did not work. I've tried
to reassociate the files, change icons, etc. and still nothing. Any one have
any clues here?

Right click one of them and see where the properties points the link to?
Is it a valid address. C:\program files\word.exe or whatever?

Office (2003) thing. Icon is also missing on Adobe reader, Quicktime and
Adobe Audition.

what happen if you Restore the system to an earlier date when thinbgs were
working okay?
How many accounts on this machine?
Did you scan your system with an up2date security software?
