missing or corrupt file

Rosanne

I got a message when booting up that said windows 2000
could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt: win\system32\comfig\systemced,

It says you can attemt tor epair this file by starting
windows 2000 setup using the original setup floppy disk
diSK OR CD ROM. SELECT R AT THE FIRST Screen to start
repair.

Well, when I put those disks in, the will reconfigure and
I will lose all my unsaved informatoin. I do not have my
hard drive backed up. Can anybody help me with this?
How can I get back into my system? I'm desparate!

When you perform the repair process it is only going to
try to repair operating system files. If your drive is
bad to the point that the user data can't be retrieved,
trying the win 2k repair process won't make it worse. If
you really want to be safe you can perform a parallel
installation on the same machine or different drive in the
same machine then copy over the files you want to keep,
but the repair process should not harm your user data.
You might consider trying the recovery console (option R,
then option C) then running "chkdsk :c /r" to repair any
errors on your hard drive.

I hope this helps.
