Missing My Horizontal Volume Bar

I own a Dell Inspiron 5160. Whenever I need to change the volume I would hit
the volume keys (Fn + Page Up, Fn + Page Down, Fn + End) and a mini-window
with a horizontal blue volume bar (it would slide to the right or left
depending on whether I wanted to increase or decrease volume) would pop up
everytime I did. This was really convenient since I didn't have to click the
volume icon in the taskbar to see how high the volume was. I didn't really
like dragging the volume bar slider either. One time, I hit the 'X' button
to close the window because I had thought that it automatically faded out
after awhile. But now, the horizontal volume bar doesn't show up anymore.
I've tried looking in my owner's manual and the XP help but I can't find
anything on it. Does anybody know about this or can give me some help?

Well, the thing disappeared last night and then I shut down the computer. I
turned it on this morning. Should I should I reboot the computer anyway?

On my Inspiron 8500 the OSD for volume and screen brightness levels is
reliant on a program called quickset whose location is C:\Program
Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe . At one point my OSD stopped working for
no apparent reason too.

I don't know if the 5160 is the same. If you have that file double click to
run it and step through the Wizard.
