I had windows messenger , then I installed msn messenger
and now I cant find windows messenger the icon is missing
and I cant find it in the program files or WINDOWS
directory. so I thought that it must have been replaced
by msn messenger but I can start the old windows
messenger from within Internet Explorer so it must be
there somewhere . can anyone tell me where it is hiding ?

"C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe"

I went there but the only thing similar is "msmsgin.exe"
when I double click it I get an error
"This cannot be started , either because it is disabled
or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
But it still runs from within IE.

Click the Messenger icon in Internet Explorer and see which process is newly
added to Task Manager. This should give you the executable file name.

Or, use ToolbarCop and find out the application name of the IE toolbaricon.
Get ToolbarCop:

Thanks mate Ive found it ,Toolbar cop said it was where
you said so I thought I would check for hidden files and
it was there so Ive unhidden it and made a shortcut for
it.I had seen it there in the past so something must have
hidden it because I didnt.

Most welcome. Glad to hear it worked.
