Have you installed Winzip or some other ZIP file handler? Win XP's
native ZIP handling disables itself if some other handler is
registered.

Yes I have WinZip installed.

So there is no "compress (zipped) folder" option? Hm ... I was hoping to
create such a folder and then associate a password with it. Now I guess I'll
have to use WinZip's encryption that works on a per file basis. I'd hoped to
associate a single password with the entire folder.

Thanks.

Thanks ... I saw it was only a zip file. Too bad installing another zip
technology disables the "compressed (zipped) folder". It appears to have some
nice features.

If I had WinZip but uninstalled it, is there no way to reinstate the XP
"Compressed (zipped) Folder" menu option?

Select Run from the Start Menu:

Type or Paste: regsvr32 cabview.dll at the prompt and click OK.
and
Type or Paste: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll at the prompt and click OK.

The change will take effect immediately, but you may have to restart Windows
for all features of the built-in ZIP support to be available.

If Send To Compressed (zipped) Folder is still missing from the Send To
menu.

Copy: Compressed (zipped) Folder from C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\SendTo
or
from C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\SendTo
or
from C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\SendTo
or
from a friend's machine.

Paste it into...

%userprofile%\SendTo
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\SendTo

Hope this helps. Let us know.
