Missing Menu and Button Bars

System: Windows 2000 Pro

When I start Internet Explorer 6, the menu bar and standard buttons are
missing. When I right-click the mouse near the address bar, the
standard buttons, address bar, links and lock toolbars are all
selected, but I am not able to de-select them. However, when I start
Windows Update, the menu and tool bars are present when it opens
Internet Explorer.

Windows Explorer seems to be alright.

Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi,
Try deleting this registry key. It will return the IE toolbar to default.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]
With no instances of IE running, run regedit, navigate to that key and
export it. That will allow you to undo the deletion if necessary. Then
delete that key.
A restart may be necessary.

Hope this helps,
Don
