missing letters in emails

my messages are missing the letters è ì ò ù when I recieve them . How do I
fix this.

eg Tòmas becomes Tmas
an-dràstsa becomes an-drsta

Most probably incorrect encoding. US-ASCII does not support European
characters; the sender should use ISO-8859-1. Check View | Options to
find the encoding (charset=) in the Internet Headers section.

Or ar *you* sending the message? If so, *you* must specify the correct
encoding (Format | Encoding | Western European (ISO)).
