Missing Internet Connection Sharing Options after running network setup wizard under SP2

I saw earlier postings on the ICS option missing problem with google group
search. However, I have not seen a working solution to this problem.

The same problem happened to my PC today. After updating my one PC running
XP pro with SP2, I found that my second PC which shares the Internet through
this XP box stopped working with the Internet. Initial investigation showed
that my second PC could not get an IP address over the Ethernet from my XP
box although the Ethernet interface on both PCs were up.

A closer look on the XP box did not show any thing suspicious, ICS options
were fine with all right boxes ticked. (ICS options were still there)
Following the advice of MS KB on trouble shooting ICS, I started network
setup wizard to reconfigure my ICS. I carefully followed prompts, selecting
my ADSL for internet connection and the Ethernet for connecting to home
network as I did in setting up ICS first time.

The wizard finished successfully without any error. However, the ICS problem
was not solved. Looking at the XP box again I found that in the 'Advanced'
tab of network interface properties, the internet connection sharing options
disappeared completely.

Searching google and ms KB did not get me any working solution. I then did a
repair XP run with my XP CD. The repair completed without any error.
However, the ICS options are still missing.

Any new information and working solutions to this MISSING ICS problem would
be gratefully received here.

Problem solved. I took a hint by a posting from Steve Winograd in
windowsxp.network_web group. After un-installing my ethernet NIC from XP and
reinstalling it using XP's new hardware wizard, the internet connection
sharing options reapeared in my ADSL connection under 'Advanced' tab. Now I
have got my ICS back. However, I am still none the wise about why the ICS
options got missing in the first place. May be someone from Microsoft can
verify this by what I did in loosing ICS and regaining it, and to put the
information in a KB article.

The message I took hint from windowsxp.network_web group is quoted here:

Try un-installing the network adapter in Device Manager and letting XP
detect and re-install it. Try downloading and installing the latest
network card driver program from the manufacturer's web site.

The ICS option only appears in the Advanced tab of an Internet
connection when all of these are true:

1. There are one or more Ethernet connections for the home network
(LAN). ICS can't use a serial or parallel connection. With more than
one Ethernet connection, there will be a box asking you to specify
which one to use for the home network.

2. The Internet Connection Firewall is disabled on the home network
connection(s).

3. The Internet connection isn't bridged.

#1 wasn't true until the system correctly installed the Ethernet NIC.
