Missing Icons

My child was on my computer and now all of my icons are gone. Restored to
an earlier date but nothing changed. Tried to make a new one and nothing
happened. HELP

Hoping it's this simple -
Right click on the desktop, select Arrange Icons by - see if "Show Desktop
Icons" is checked.
If it isn't, select it.
