Missing icons on taskbar?

Several months ago my Creative volume control would not be on the taskbar
after boot. If I log off and back on the icon would be there. Has there been
any fix for this problem? I just installed new Creative drivers but that had
no positive effect. I know when I first noticed the problem MS was aware of
it yet I have been unable to find if there was a resolution. Thank you

Normally, the "speaker" icon (volume control) appears in the Notification
tray, just to the right of the taskbar (bottom-right of screen).

Right-click an open area of the taskbar and click PROPERTIES.
Click the CUSTOMIZE button.
Click on Volume Control.
If it is not set for ALWAYS SHOW, click the arrow to the right of its box
and make it so.

Yes, I was aware of that. The Creative (sound card) icon replaces the MS
volume control icon. The problem is that the Creative icon will not load on
boot. I must log off (not reboot) then log back on, and the icon will be
present on the taskbar.

Thanks for the input. I did a bit more research and tried this procedure and
it seems to have fixed the problem.
Right-click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Expand 'Services & Applications'
Highlight 'Services'
Look through list of services on the right....
Find Universal Plug & Play Device Host
Right-click on it.
Click properties.
Change startup type to 'Disabled'
Do exactly the same with 'SSDP discovery service'
Problem should be solved.

I dont want to sound like a whiner, but I have the same problem, but only
after updating to the 2006 version of Norton Anti-virus, it's gone completly,
I've tried lots of things, I still have volume, but i like the speaker icon
there. Anyone else have this problem with Norton?
