missing file

I can't open my Excel program any longer...it says I have to reinstall the
program and that it can't find SBERET.MSI file! Word opens fine. These came
pre-installed on my HP Pavilion desktop PC (Windows XP), and I don't have a
CD to reinstall! I'm wondering if some of the MS updates wiped it out. How
do I get it back? Thanks!

I have the same problem here. One thing you can do in the meantime for
viewing existing Excel files is to download the free Excel Viewer. You'll
possibly see the same errors in trying to install it but just click cancel
and then, at least for me, it continued installing. You can't create or edit
but you can at least view some of your Excel files you already have. Just
Google Excel viewer.

Just got a reply form a Microsoft support person who told me to do the following and it worked for me. Do both steps 1. and 2.

Close all the office application
1. Click on the start button->Run-> excel /unregserver (there is a space between excel and /unregserver)->Ok
2. Click on the start button->Run-> excel /regserver(there is a space between excel and /regserver)->Ok

After I tried that Excel began working again for me. Not sure what it did but it works! Now, I'm not sure that allows Service Pak 3 to be installed . About to go try that now. Feel free to email me with any more questions:
