Excel XP tries to open ALL files in startup directory.

How do you fix this? It just started after doing an update from the MS
update site.

I cannot start Excel without it attempting to load all files. The command
line has nothing but Excel.exe in it.

If I click on an Excel file to open just that file, Excel tries to open all
files in that directory.

OLE links with Excel files no longer work either.

I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling completely and reinstalling, and
repairing. Nothing helps. I have even reset all of my personal stuff to MS
defaults.

The product also GPF's sometimes when trying to open all of the files.

This is frustrating to an absolute standstill with this product. I
absolutely hate it that I should have to wipe my drive and reinstall
everything from the ground up to fix this.

If I start Excel in an empty directory, I can use the file-open dialog and
THAT works. This is not a workable solution to my problem however.

Forgot to mention the product is running on Windows 2000 in a work
environment and with all latest updates.

In Excel, click on Tools | Options | General. The "At startup,
open all files in:" box should be empty. If it contains a folder
name, delete it, and click on OK.
