Missing file

F

Faizal

Hi,

I have this occurring problem after I had to my
system32.exe file from my system as it was infected with
the Blaster32 worm.

Now my system will prompt for this missing file everytime
it starts up...

Does anyone knows how can I get a copy of this file?
Any known links or downloads to rectify this problem?

Thanks!! Glad that such forum is put up.....Cool!

This has been suggested:

Suggestion: To fix the "windows\system32\config\system file is
missing or corrupt" where XP wont boot, go to
recovery console and type:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit
[Thanks Kelly/MVP]

Dana,

This is the wrong solution. His AV software deleted the virus file, but not
the Regsitry entry that's trying to run it.

I retract it.

system32.exe was the worm. What you need to do is get rid of the
references that are still trying to run it.

Go to www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities,
Clean KWBot.Worm Registry entries.
