Missing File / Driver?

S

Everytime I boot up, I get a screen saying that a PCI Device is missing and
that I should put a CD in that contains it. It looks like this file is
keeping me from downloading items and installing new hardware. Can anyone
tell me where I can find this file / driver or whatever it is.

What does the screen REALLY say?

The screen that comes up is "Found New Hardware Wizard". This wizard helps
you install sofware for:
PCI Device
If your hardware came with an installation CD or floppy disk, insert it now.

When I hit the install now button, it searches but comes back with another
screen that says "Cannot Install this Hardward". The wizard cannot find the
necessary software. I don't know which software it is look for or what
hardward device it has found. I took off a printer I had, but when I
re-installed it, I got the same message and the printer did not show up on
the printer/fax screen.

Does that help?

Do you have a driver installation CD or floppy disk that came with the
printer? If you do, install the driver. If you don't, go to the website of
the printer's manufacturer and download the driver for that model printer.

If you reinstalled the printer and it isn't presently listed in Printers
and Faxes, it may be a failed or partial install which would cause the
"hardware wizard" to request installing hardware that has been detected yet
not installed. AFAIK that shouldn't have to do with a PCI device unless you
have a PCI Printer card installed.

Did this issue present itself after the printer uninstall/reinstall or is
it an ongoing one?
If after the printer uninstall/reinstall, did you reinstall per the
manufacturers instructions?
Are there any "Unknown" or "Other" devices listed in Device Manager?
Are there any "Problem Devices listed in System Information (msinfo32) >
Components?
