Hi. I have a friend running windows xp on her pc. She downloaded a 3rd party
clean up tool which found and corrected 1000s of registry errors. Since then
she is unable to see certain fields on some websites and also when she tries
to search for a file or folder on the local drive, the search window is blank
apart from the little dog wagging it's tail. Another friend tried
reinstalling xp over the top of the existing installation but this did not
help. Obviously something is not right with the registry but what and how do
we fix it. We are limited as to what we can do online as a lot of the fields
and images are not loading and are missing. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Do a System restore to a point before this Registry "cleaner" was
installed.....

I will try this but assumed that the re install would have made the restore
points reset to the install point. Will let you know. Thanks

Hi Gordon. The clean up was done last November time. I have only become aware
of the proble. The system restore has not helped, it only went back to
January. Have you any idea on weather I can manually reset anything in the
registry if in deed this is the problem. I know that this is a big no no but
I don't have any other ideas? Thanks

Have you tried using the system file checker?
To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

Gordon Tried the sfc /scannow. It went through the checking prossess but made
no difference. To add to the issue, I have uninstalled the service pack 2
with the intention of re installing it in the hope it would repair the
registry entry. However, when I log onto Microsoft and follow the links, I
get as far as the download link but the download page does not load and all
links to downloading SP2 do not function. I have set automatic update to run
tomorrow. Hopefully it will download automatically. In the mean time I have
also tried Run>regscr32 xxxxxx.dll on various dlls as instructed on one help
page but this did not work either.
