Missing favorites folder

Recently the favorites folder on IE6 disappeared. Tried to transfer a
copy to the drive and correct folder but get a message that the
favorites folder still exists but I cannot find it visually or with
"find" feature of WinXP. Also, cannot change the icons on folder on
desktops that can be changed as well. Tries to import favorites from
FireFox and I get to the fold that asks where to put the favorites fold
and there is nothing on the screen. Reinstalled WInXP SP2 files but
nothing works. Any idea short of wiping the drive and re-installing
Windows?

Also, Windows Explorer does not open as well. I have a short cut from
the desktop and the window will not open. Have to reset the computer to
get it working again.

I had what appears to be a similar experience last week. Ended up finding it
somewhere in EXPLORE. Right click START, click on EXPLORE and find DOCUMENTS
and Settings. Click on your user id in the left pane window and see if you
can find it on the right side. Once I found and clicked on it in the right
window, it reappeared the next time I opened IE. I have no explanation as
to why it happened.
