Missing drives, G:, H:, I:, J

When trying to use a SD or SmartMedia card my HP Pavillion a375c does not
recognize the various input devices. In particular, it can not find the
following drive locations: G: SD reader; H: Compact Flash reader: I: Smart
Media reader; and J: MS/MS Pro reader.

I go to System Restore and pick a date 2 weeks prior to losing these drives
and they are reinstalled and show up under "My Computer" and then work until
the next time this happens.

Could Norton Utilities be the problem? I notice whenever Norton said the
firewall needs to be turned on this problem sort of appears. Help, it is
driving me nuts.

Try going to the Device Manager (Right-Click on "My Computer", click on the
hardware tab, and click device manager. Expande the "Disk drives" branch and
see if drives G, H, I, and J are there. Single click on each on and select
the remove icon on the tool bar at the top. Repeat this for each drive.
Next, restart the computer and log on as normal. Windows should detect the
drives and the drivers will be reinstalled for the drives automatically.

I don't think Norton utilities causes this problem. I have a custom built
machine with an 8-in-1 card reader similar to your HP and I have had the same
thing happen once before. I'm not sure what exactly causes this
problem...might just be bad drivers. Speaking of which; are you using
drivers from HP or are they native driver in Windows XP? Maybe try a
different set of drivers if this persists.

Hope this helps
