Missing Desktop

When I turn on my Dell computer Windows XP loads and takes me to the welcome
screen, then shows the Dell screensaver and goes no further. I cannot get the
Desktop, although I can get to the programs by Ctrl+Alt+Del and brousing via
the task manager.

How can I get the Deskyop back?
