Missing CD ROM and Burner

What can I do when Device Mgr doesn't recognize my
drives. I can't uninstall and reinstall because of
that . None of the fixes I've tried has worked. Thanks
a lot for any info.
 
Go into your motherboards bios when you boot and see if you can see the
drives there, if not then XP doesn't have a chance of seeing them.
 
Thanks, I'll try that---if they're not there can I
reinstate them in BIOS?---Thanks Much-- :-)
 
The bios will either see the devices or it won't, providing you don't
somehow have them disabled in the bios. If it doesn't then the problem is
more likely to be with either of the cd drives. You need to check things
like how they are jumpered and you might want to try them one at a time on
the cable, in case one of them is causing the problem.
