Software can not find CD/DVD burner

I have a HP Pavilion note book with a HL-DT-ST-GSA-4084N CD/DVD burner. Just
recently my burning software will no longer recognize the drive. I have
tried reinstalling the software, uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, and
swapping the drive with the same model from another computer. The problem
still persists. Anyone else ever have this problem?

You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive or you get an error
code 31

Try method 2: Manually delete the registry entries

Thanks for the help but the registry entries to delete in the fix are not
there. I am not getting any errors and can still access the drive in Windows
to read files. I think it may be reporting it as a read only drive and that
is why the burning software will not see it. I do not know where to go to
check this.

Look at the properties of the drive, under the recording tab.
