Cd/dvd cause reboot

No matter what disc I put in my tray, it automatically reboots my system (cd,
dvd, music, data, program, blank) If I keep the disc in the tray, it will
continually reboot my system.
I haven't used it in a few months, until now, when I needed to use it.
I'm a frustrated rookie, and here is what I know.
The firmware has been updated.
Viruses (Mcafee, and Windows Defender run clean)
I'm using Windows XP home version
The drive I have an LG super multi......HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10N
Please help

With no media in the CDROM tray, does the computer boot successfully
from the hard drive ? What I'm looking for here, is evidence this
isn't a power supply problem. If you have a program that puts
a good load on the machine, perhaps you could try that and see
if the computer restarts.

If this is software related, perhaps there are messages in Event
Viewer ?

One program you could try, is Prime95 (loads the CPU). Say "No"
to "Join GIMPs" and do the Torture Test. You don't have to run
this for very long - a couple minutes should tell you whether
the additional electrical loading from heavy computing,
is going to be enough to cause the power supply to wink out.
The main menu should have options to stop and exit the program.
This particular version starts a thread per virtual computing
core, and on my P4 single core with hyperthreading, runs two
test threads. Normally, the torture test is used to check for
"correct computing", and can detect bad RAM or a flaky CPU
setup (if you're overclocking). The program stops a thread,
when it detects even one error.

A second program I like, is 3DMark2001SE Build 330. That
uses the CPU and the graphics capability. I selected
this particular version, because it is only a 40MB download.
Some of the later versions are much larger. A benchmark run
might take ten minutes or so, which should be enough time
to stress the power supply. If you are using integrated
(motherboard) graphics, the frame rate displayed might be
pretty sluggish.

My computer boots up just fine, this only occurs when I put a disc in the
tray. Everything else on my system works great ! Any other thoughts ?
Thanks for replying.
