"Missing" CD and DVD Drives

After my teenage daughter spent a day on the computer my cd and dvd drives
don't appear to exist to my computer. When I go to "My Computer" it shows C
and D (recovery) drives, but no E or F or whatever.
I've lost my recovery disks and I'm stuck. Is it possible to buy
replacement recovery disks somewhere?
