Missing animated dog

When I click on the Search button on the tool bar the
animated dog no longer appears. I've lost hima nd can't
figure out how to get him back. Can anyone help me? I
emailed this message last night but now I can't figure
out how to read previous messages and all I see are the
ones posted on the 18th.

In Search click on Change Preferences>With an animated screen character.
