Mirroring a boot/system disk

Hi all,

Can we upgrade a boot/system disk from basic to dynamic in order to
mirror
that disk with an other exact same disk (same make, size and model) ?

The OS is Win2000 server sp3 and most recent patches rnunning SQL server
2000 also sp3.

Thanks.

So, I take the plunge and try to mirror the boot disk making sure to make an
image
of the server before doing so.

I bought an exact same disk as the first one. I upgraded the new disk to
dynamic
and all went well. Then I made the same with the boot/system disk and
got a message that the file system will be unmounted and a prompt to continue.
I clicked OK and got a cryptic error (error 100 if I remember well)
and was asked to reboot. After that the system was unbootable.

Fortunately, I have made a backup. Although I had to boot a Windows 2000 CD and

start a new installation just to be able to get rid of the dynamic disk because

Drive image was not able to recognize the disk and I was not able to copy the
backup.

The server is Windows 2000 sp3 and latest patches applied.

Is the message about unmounting file system is correct behavior ?

Regards.

The message about unmounting is correct. Then the system will reboot, you
should be able to log-in and the system will ask for another reboot to
complete the upgrade. At least that is the expected behavior. Too bad you
don't have the exact error number and the message. By "system was
unbootable" do you mean it bugchecked? Which bugcheck?

The system didn't come up and certainly not enough to go to a logon prompt.
If I remember well, the message was IRQL... (and something else) appeared at
the
very beginning of the boot process. I know that I'm not too explicit but I will

try the whole process again in a near (I hope) future, and this time I will
note
every single errors and messages.

Thanks for your time.
